Passionate. Patient. Persistent. These are just a few of the characteristics that describe me. I know each animal is different, from personality to background, and I’ll work with yours to give them the specific and specialized guidance they need.
My name is Ana Trahan, and I’ve been working and riding, with horses for 25+ years. From barrel racing and rodeoing in my teenage years, to groundwork clinics, saddle breaking/colt starting, trick riding and English in my adult years, I’ve done a little bit of everything and a lot of a few things. Heart of Horsemanship was founded in 2015 and has been steadily growing ever since. Located in the small town of Erath, LA, we have the privilege of enjoying private and quiet quarters in which to focus on the tasks at hand.

Horse Behavior Training
If your animal needs help with a specific physical or behavioral issue, Horse Behavior Training with Heart of Horsemanship may be a great option for you. Training is tailored to each horse’s personality and needs to bring out the best in your horse!
Ground Training
My Ground Training work involves an intimate understanding of your animal’s natural and individual history. Your horse has plenty of potential to learn and understand commands, and my techniques will lay the foundation for you to build upon. I combine your needs and wants with the natural attributes of your horse to bring forth a wonderful and formidable team.
Foal Training
The first few months of a foal’s life are perhaps the most important in mental development. Starting early is key to a well minded, willing to please partner. They learn quickly to look to their owner for guidance in their youth.
Riding Lessons
My most popular service, I’ve been perfecting my teaching abilities since 2010. Every little girl at some point wants to experience riding a pretty pony. Lessons are great way for kids to have some quality time with a horse without having to break the bank. Let them have some fun on some of my proven lesson horses. Kid tested, mother approved! They’re patient and kind with the kids, and also good at their jobs! Lessons aren’t limited to the youth, either. Maybe you need a little help solving a problem between you and your horse. Even adults sometimes need a little help!
Colt Starting
Is it that time to throw a saddle on your youngster for the first time? Here at Heart of Horsemanship, we use natural horsemanship techniques to teach your colt/filly how to accept a rider with as little stress, and as natural, as we can make it. Techniques used a derived from famous clinicians like Clinton Anderson and Pat Parelli.
Tune Ups
Life gets the best of sometimes and time is limited. Maybe all your horse needs is a little tune up, a few reminders, and a few wet saddle pads and miles. Heart of Horsemanship will happily and proudly provide this service for you! Have a busy schedule, but would still like to sit in on some sessions? We will work out a time with you!
Pricing
Prices for training start at $600 per month and vary depending on services requested. Price includes hay, bedding, and grain. Horses must be UTD on coggins and all vaccinations before being sent here.
Private lessons are $45 for an hour, group lessons are $35. Lessons must be bought in advance.
Summer Camps
Summer camps are a great way to get your kid outside involved with all kinds of activities. From horse back riding, to trail riding, painting, games, treasure hunting and wild blackberry picking, there are many things to discover out there away from a screen!
